Since the laws were changed in 2018, everyone in email marketing has become (or should have become), much more aware of the need to be “above board” in terms of GDPR (general data protection regulation) and consent.
Before the new guidelines and laws it was relatively easy to send emails to anyone you wanted (as long as you had their email address).
But things have moved on, and people’s email addresses are seen as a private thing that we need to treat with the upmost respect (and rightly so).
However, it’s still not that great. According to Spamlaws 85% of all emails sent are classed as spam and the most common spam emails are advertising messages.
This isn’t great news for the honest marketer as it makes it harder for our emails to reach the inboxes of the people who have requested to hear from us.
However, all is not lost and companies like Mailchimp do a fantastic job of making sure their emails arrive in inboxes safely.
