The Kickstart Mailchimp training course is a one day training course designed to give you everything you need to get moving with Mailchimp and start doing it the right way for your business.

Each of the 4 sessions focuses on a key part of the overall equation, providing you with the answers and knowledge to take away and implement yourself.

The 4 sessions that make up the Kickstart Mailchimp training course

Mailchimp Foundations 

This session is focused on setting up a Mailchimp account from scratch and understanding the key elements within the system and how to use them.

You’ll watch as (using a Free Mailchimp Account) audiences are created, segmentation is explained and all the little tricks you need to get Mailchimp working smoothly are covered.

Building a solid foundation is essential to ensure you can leverage Mailchimp.

Planning & Preparation

In this session I’ll go through all the planning elements that you need to build your email marketing system in Mailchimp.

You’ll discover some of the key marketing things that need to born in mind and the importance of knowing who you’re targeting and what to say to them.

If you haven’t got a plan, you’re always going to struggle with Mailchimp.

Capturing New Leads

Through using Mailchimp for over 10 years, the biggest challenge most people face with the system is how to get the data into Mailchimp itself in the right way.

You’ll learn the many different ways data can be added to your audience and get to grips with Mailchimp landing pages, an incredibly easy way to get more leads.

We’ll also cover the key things you need to consider when capturing information.

Sending Effective Emails

The final session will bring all of the information you’ve learnt to this point into sharp focus as you develop the emails you’re going to send.

You’ll learn about the different types of emails, when to use them, and get tips and tricks on how to ensure your emails succeed…and of course, you’ll see live demonstrations of emails being built.

Sending emails is what you’re here for, and you’ll learn how to send your own great emails.

Mailchimp Set Up

Once you’ve got a plan, you actually need to set things up in Mailchimp… so this session will be a live walkthrough of creating and setting up a new, FREE account.  It will build on the planning & preparation session and demonstrate:

  • A brief guided tour of the Mailchimp set up (as it currently is – things change quickly around here!)
  • Setting up your Audience correctly.
  • Building Fields, Merge Tags, Groups and Tags.

The session will conclude with a live Q&A for those watching.

Planning & Preparation

The biggest single reason businesses struggle with Mailchimp is that they don’t have a plan, so the first session is devoted to some of the bigger principles of Marketing, Mailchimp and Email Marketing to help you develop your own plan.  We’ll cover:

  • Who you are selling to
  • The “customer journey” that everyone takes (and you control!)
  • Where Mailchimp & Email marketing fits into this overall plan

…and then I’ll create the complete system that I’m going to build over the rest of the event (the one I build for all of my clients), including:

  • The emails I want to set up to be sent
  • The information I need to have in Mailchimp
  • The specifics of where and how that information should be stored in Mailchimp
  • The different ways I’m going to get the information into Mailchimp

…and the section will finish with a live Q&A for attendees.

Data Capture

The biggest single issue that I see in the Mailchimp Answers Facebook group is how to use multiple forms effectively to track, segment and trigger automations.  The session is 100% devoted to that issue and I’ll cover:

  • How to ‘holistically’ view the ways people can get onto your audience.
  • GDPR, Consent and what you should/shouldn’t do.
  • The one thing EVERY point of entry to your audience should have.
  • Why Mailchimp’s own forms (apart from landing pages) should be avoided if possible.

Also, I’ll actually create, live, a Mailchimp Landing Pages and show you how to make them more effective and powerful.

The session will wrap up with a Q&A for live attendees.

Creating Emails

Once you’ve got the data into Mailchimp, you obviously want to use it to send emails!  This session will focus on the actual emails you’re going to send and will include:

  • The different types of email and the ones you should always have in your account.
  • Templates – the right (and wrong) way to create an email.
  • Automations – the different types available and what you should/shouldn’t use
  • Campaigns – how to set up and dovetail with your Automations
  • Writing Emails – some general tips and advice on crafting an effective email campaign
  • Merge Tags and how they can work.

Also, I’ll be building, live, emails including:

  • A basic, branded template which can be used across the board for your emails.
  • A standard campaign
  • A basic of Automation.

And a final Q&A session for all attendees

So why are we using Mailchimp for this training?  There are a number of reasons which might be good to know if you’ve not used it before…

  1. You get the full functionality of the system for Free – One of the great things about Mailchimp is that you can use it (and use most of it) for Free!… in fact, for many, the only reason to actually pay for Mailchimp is to get access to chat support (but that’s what the world’s biggest user group – Mailchimp Answers is all about!)
  2. It’s the biggest player in the email marketing/marketing automation arena – which means that it’s robust, has the best chance to get your emails into someone’s inbox and is continually being developed.
  3. It’s perfect for small businesses – I’ll be the first to admit that Mailchimp isn’t the most advanced tool out there… but it does what 99% of small businesses need, without the bells and whistles, and is pretty easy to pick up and use.
  4. It’s easy to integrate with other tools – which means that if there’s something else you want to do, chances are it’ll play with Mailchimp very nicely.
  5. It’s not a dumb chimp – despite the fact that most of Mailchimp is free, it doesn’t mean it’s basic.  You can segment your database and automate within the free account.
  6. I know it ‘intimately’ – There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not logged into Mailchimp for either myself or my clients… so chances are that if you’ve got an issue, I’ve probably encountered it!

The bottom line is that Mailchimp works… and works for pretty much any business that’s looking for help with building an email marketing system – and as such is the perfect tool to build a basic email marketing system with.

…and if you don’t currently use Mailchimp?

Well, this IS a Mailchimp training course, and so if you’re currently using another tool, the content won’t be applicable… but the purpose of the course is to show how, from a blank canvas, you can create a full system in Mailchimp – so if you do want to move over to Mailchimp, this course will give you all you need to know.

This Course is NOT for everyone

I’m a great believer that action delivers results… and that focused action delivers even better results.

…so if you want to attend the live training, watch the videos, learn a load of stuff, but not actually take action – that’s your call – but nothing will happen in your business and thus this training isn’t really for you.
